Normalized to 100%
Formula: Final = Σ(score × weight /100), normalized if weights ≠100. Letters: A+97 A93 A-90 B+87 B83 B-80 C+77 C73 C-70 D+67 D63 D-60.
How to use
- 1Add each assignment or category (e.g., Homework 20%, Midterm 30%, Final 50%).
- 2Enter the score you earned for each item (0–100). Weights can sum to 100 or any total — we normalize automatically.
- 3See your final grade, letter and what you need on remaining work to hit your target.
Formula
Final = Σ (scoreᵢ × weightᵢ / 100) → normalized to Σ weightᵢEach item contributes score × weight / 100. If weights sum to 100, that sum is your final percent. If they sum to less (e.g., you’ve only completed 60% of the course), we normalize to show your current standing.
Examples
Example 1 — Homework 30% (85), Midterm 30% (90), Final 40% (78)
Weighted sum: 85×0.3=25.5, 90×0.3=27, 78×0.4=31.2 → 83.7 (B).
Final: 83.7 — B
Example 2 — Need 90% overall, with 60% done at 88
You have 88 on 60% of coursework. Remaining weight is 40%. Required score = (90 − 88×0.6)/0.4 = 93 on remaining work.
Needed on final 40%: 93
About
The Grade Calculator determines your final course grade from weighted assignments, exams, quizzes, and homework. Enter each graded item or category with its weight and the score you earned, and the calculator shows your current grade, the letter equivalent, and the score you need on remaining work to reach a target. Scores can be entered as percentages, and the tool normalizes weights automatically, so you can use it mid-course as well as at the end of a semester. Students use it to forecast final outcomes and decide where to focus effort before the term ends.
Frequently asked questions
What if my weights don’t add to 100?
We normalize. If you’ve only entered 60% of the course, we scale the weighted score to that total so you see your current grade. Add all categories for the true final.
How are letter grades assigned?
A+ 97–100, A 93–96, A- 90–92, B+ 87–89, B 83–86, B- 80–82, C+ 77–79, C 73–76, C- 70–72, D+ 67–69, D 63–66, D- 60–62, F below 60 (standard US scale).
Can I use points instead of percents?
Yes — convert points to percent first (earned ÷ possible × 100), then enter that score. A points-based mode is coming soon.
Is this the same as a GPA calculator?
No. This calculates a single course final grade. For semester or cumulative GPA across courses, use our GPA calculators.
