How to use
- 1Enter your current GPA, credits completed, and target GPA.
- 2The calculator computes the exact number of quality points you are short of your goal.
- 3Use the result with the target or raise GPA calculators to plan how to close the gap.
Formula
Quality-point deficit = (Target GPA − Current GPA) × completed creditsThe deficit is the total quality points you would need to add across all coursework to reach the target, based on credits completed so far. A positive deficit means you need to earn more points than average on future credits; a negative deficit means you are already ahead.
Examples
Current GPA 2.8, 50 credits done, target 3.2
Deficit = (3.2 − 2.8) × 50 = 20 quality points.

About
The GPA Deficit Calculator measures the exact shortfall between your current grade point average and your target. It converts that gap into quality points — the units GPA is built from — so you know precisely how much ground you need to make up. Enter your current GPA, the credits you have completed, and your goal. Students use this tool to understand whether a target is realistic, to plan how many strong semesters are needed, and to pair with the Target GPA or Raise GPA calculators for a complete improvement plan.
Frequently asked questions
What is a quality point?
Quality points are grade points multiplied by credits (an A in a 3-credit course = 12 QP). GPA is total quality points divided by total credits.
Can my deficit be negative?
Yes — if your current GPA is already above your target, the deficit is negative, meaning you have room to spare.
