Raise GPA Calculator

Plan how to raise your GPA with future grades and credits.

Required GPA (going forward)

Formula: Required = (Target×Total − Current×Completed) / Remaining where Total = Completed+Remaining

What it means

Deficit

How to use

  1. 1Enter your current GPA and the credits you've completed.
  2. 2Try different scenarios: add future grades with credits to see how your GPA responds.
  3. 3Find how many additional credit hours of A's or B's you'd need to reach your goal.

Formula

New GPA = (Current GPA × current credits + Σ(future grade point × credits)) / (current credits + future credits)

Your current quality points are fixed. Adding future courses contributes new quality points, and the combined total is divided by the combined credits. This shows exactly how much each strong semester helps.

Examples

Current GPA 2.5 with 40 credits, take 30 more credits at 3.5

(2.5×40 + 3.5×30) ÷ 70 = (100 + 105) ÷ 70.

New GPA 2.93

About

The Raise GPA Calculator helps you plan how to improve your grade point average through future coursework. Enter your current GPA and completed credits, then test different scenarios of upcoming grades and credit hours to see how each affects your overall standing. The calculator uses the standard credit-weighted formula, adding your current quality points to those from planned courses and dividing by the new total of credits. Students use it to determine how many credits of strong grades they need to reach a scholarship threshold, a graduation requirement, or a competitive admissions GPA.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can I raise my GPA?
It depends on how many credits you've already earned. With fewer completed credits, each new A moves your GPA more than when you have many credits banked.
What if my school has a repeat policy?
This calculator assumes all grades count together. If your school replaces old grades when you repeat a course, use the Course Repeat GPA Calculator.
