Grade Comparison Calculator

Compare two grades as ratio and percent difference.

Score Ratio (A / B)

Percentage Difference

Point Difference

Formulas: Ratio = Score₁ ÷ Score₂. Difference = (Score₁ − Score₂) ÷ Score₂ × 100%.

How to use

  1. 1Enter the first grade or score as a percentage.
  2. 2Enter the second grade or score to compare against.
  3. 3The calculator shows the ratio of the two and the percentage difference between them.

Formula

Ratio = Grade₁ ÷ Grade₂ • Difference = (Grade₁ − Grade₂) ÷ Grade₂ × 100%

The ratio expresses one grade as a multiple of the other (e.g., 80 vs 70 gives 1.14). The percentage difference shows how much higher or lower the first grade is relative to the second.

Examples

Compare 85% against 75%

Ratio = 85 ÷ 75 = 1.13. Difference = (85 − 75) ÷ 75 × 100 = 13.3% higher.

About

The Grade Comparison Calculator measures how two grades or scores relate to each other in two ways: as a ratio and as a percentage difference. Enter two numbers — such as your grade in two classes, two exam scores, or your performance across two semesters — and the tool shows both comparisons. Teachers use it to contrast student performance across sections or assignments, and students use it to benchmark improvement between terms. Each output answers a different question: the ratio shows how many times larger one score is, while the percentage difference shows the relative change from the baseline score.

Frequently asked questions

When is grade comparison useful?
When comparing scores across different tests, sections, teachers, or years to see relative performance.
Why does percentage difference differ from ratio?
The ratio is a multiplicative comparison; the percentage difference is a relative change measured from the second value as the base.
