Formula: Final = Σ(score × weight /100), normalized if weights ≠100. Letters: A+97 A93 A-90 B+87 B83 B-80 C+77 C73 C-70 D+67 D63 D-60.
How to use
- 1Enter the score (0–100) for each grading category this semester.
- 2Enter the weight each category carries toward the semester grade.
- 3Your semester average and letter grade update instantly, with weights normalized automatically.
Formula
Semester grade = Σ (category score × weight) ÷ Σ weights × 100Each category's score is multiplied by its weight, summed across all categories, and divided by the total weight. If weights don't sum to 100, the result is normalized so it still represents the effective semester average.
Examples
Homework 90 (25%), Quizzes 82 (25%), Midterm 78 (25%), Final 88 (25%)
(90 + 82 + 78 + 88) ÷ 4 → 84.5%.
84.5% — B
About
The Semester Grade Calculator computes your average for an entire term from category scores and their weights. Enter the percentage you earned in each category — homework, quizzes, tests, participation — and the weight of each, and the calculator returns your semester average and letter grade. Weights are normalized automatically, so the math works whether your syllabus uses clean percentages or arbitrary totals. Students use this tool at any point in the term to see their current standing and to project what grade a strong final stretch could produce.
Frequently asked questions
How is semester grade different from final grade?
Semester grade computes the average across all your category scores. Final Grade Calculator instead solves for the score you still need on one final exam.
What if weights are unbalanced?
The calculator handles any weights by normalizing, so a final worth 40% affects your semester grade more than one worth 10%.
