Target GPA Calculator

Calculate the GPA you need in remaining credits to reach your target.

Required GPA (going forward)

Formula: Required = (Target×Total − Current×Completed) / Remaining where Total = Completed+Remaining

What it means

Deficit

How to use

  1. 1Enter your current GPA and total credits completed so far.
  2. 2Choose your target GPA and the number of credits remaining in your program.
  3. 3The calculator shows the minimum GPA you must earn on remaining coursework to hit your target.

Formula

Required GPA = (Target × (prior credits + future credits) − Current GPA × prior credits) / future credits

Work backward from the credit-weighted formula. The quality points already earned are fixed, so the calculator determines what average you need on the remaining credits to reach the target cumulative GPA.

Examples

Current GPA 3.0, 60 credits done, 60 left, target 3.3

Needed QP on remaining = (3.3×120 − 3.0×60) = 216 → 216 ÷ 60 = 3.6.

Need 3.6 on remaining credits

About

The Target GPA Calculator tells you exactly what grade point average you need on your remaining coursework to reach a desired cumulative GPA. Enter your current GPA, completed credits, the number of credits still to come, and your goal. The calculator works backwards from the standard credit-weighted GPA formula to show the minimum average required going forward. Students use this tool to plan semesters around scholarship, graduation, or program admission requirements. If the required GPA exceeds the maximum on your scale, the target is not realistic with the credits remaining.

Frequently asked questions

Is the required GPA always achievable?
Not always. If the required GPA exceeds the maximum possible (e.g., above 4.0), the target may be unreachable in the remaining credits.
Can I change how many credits remain?
Yes — adjust the remaining credits to plan by semester, year, or your full remaining program.
